TOKYO, July 4 (ANI) — Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi concluded her three-day visit to India by highlighting five priority areas for strengthening India-Japan cooperation: semiconductors, critical minerals, information and communications, clean energy, and pharmaceuticals.
Sharing a message and visuals on X after completing her visit, Takaichi said that, in addition to holding a summit meeting and dinner with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she participated in economic events where the two countries, as “trusted partners sharing strategic direction,” outlined a medium- to long-term roadmap for deeper cooperation.
“In the field of security, we made progress on concrete cooperation, including agreement on promoting the transfer of defense equipment and holding a 2+2 ministerial meeting this year,” she said.
Takaichi added that India and Japan had issued a joint declaration on economic security that includes concrete measures to accelerate collaboration in the five priority sectors.
“In the area of economic security, we issued a joint declaration that incorporates specific cooperation to accelerate collaboration in five key areas: semiconductors, critical minerals, information and communications, clean energy, and pharmaceuticals. Moreover, reaching agreement on broadly advancing cooperation toward energy diversification and stable supply is, from the perspective of Japan’s energy security, a highly significant achievement,” she said.
She also noted that discussions at the economic events focused on expanding Japanese investment in India and strengthening innovation partnerships.
Together with Japanese companies interested in increasing investments and fostering innovation, the discussions explored ways to connect “India’s growth potential to Japan’s own economic growth,” she said.
Looking ahead to next year’s 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan, Takaichi expressed confidence that the two countries would continue to create shared economic opportunities.
“We will continue to take the lead in realizing a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ (FOIP) and work energetically to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the broader international community,” she wrote on X.
Takaichi was on an official visit to India from July 1 to July 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. During the visit, she participated in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, where the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest.
