New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): The inaugural Joint Defense Committee meeting between India and Morocco was held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Defense, “The two sides discussed areas of mutual interest in the field of training and education, peacekeeping operations, military exercises, medical cooperation, cyber defense and defense industries. They agreed to further expand defense ties as bilateral cooperation is moving toward its 70th anniversary in 2027.”
The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) in the Ministry of Defense Amitabh Prasad and Chief of the 2nd Bureau of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces Brigadier General Abdellah Athmani.
The Indian delegation comprised officers from the Department of Defense, the three services, Headquarters Integrated Defense Staff, the Department of Defense Production, the DG Armed Forces Medical Services, the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Moroccan delegation is visiting India from September 7 to 10. Brigadier General Abdellah Athmani began his visit by paying tribute to the bravehearts at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The Moroccan delegation also interacted with defense industry representatives at DPSU Bhawan in New Delhi to gain firsthand exposure to India’s growing defense manufacturing capabilities.
Both sides agreed to explore avenues of cooperation in co-production, joint ventures, technology collaboration, maintenance and sustainment.
The delegation will also visit Army Hospital (Research and Referral) to gain an overview of India’s military medicine capabilities.
A memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation between the two countries was signed during Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Morocco in September 2025. The visit provided fresh momentum to bilateral defense relations.
The Joint Defense Committee meeting is part of the institutional mechanism established through the MoU. (ANI)
