Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, July 13 (ANI): An American citizen has been apprehended by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) for entering India without valid travel documents, officials said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth said the man entered India by sea in November 2025 and had been living in Goa before attempting to travel to Nepal.
In a video statement issued by the Police Media Cell, Siddharth said, “On July 11, the SSB apprehended an individual near Sonauli for attempting to enter Nepal without authorization.”
During questioning, the man identified himself as Jordan Brown, a U.S. citizen from California.
“He revealed that he had traveled to Thailand on a tourist visa, where he lost his passport. He subsequently reached Sri Lanka by sea and arrived in India from there on Nov. 2, 2025. Since then, he had been residing in Goa. He was attempting to travel to Nepal when the SSB apprehended him,” Siddharth said.
According to the additional superintendent of police, no valid travel documents were found in Brown’s possession.
Officials said Brown’s claims are being verified, and a case has been registered against him at Sonauli Police Station under Sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act for entering India without valid documents.
Further legal proceedings are underway.
In a separate case, five Ukrainian nationals and one American citizen arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for their alleged involvement in providing terrorist and combat training to ethnic armed groups in Myanmar were produced before the Patiala House Court on July 3.
According to the NIA, the accused entered India on tourist visas before allegedly traveling through Mizoram into Myanmar, where they came into contact with ethnic armed groups fighting the country’s military junta.
The agency alleged that the accused provided training and support related to drone warfare and other military technologies to the armed groups, raising concerns about India’s national security.
The accused remain in judicial custody, and the investigation is ongoing. (ANI)
