SOUTH DAKOTA, July 4 (ANI) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) made pointed remarks about Iran during his address marking America’s 250th Independence Day at Mount Rushmore, claiming the United States had temporarily paused hostilities to allow funeral ceremonies for slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Addressing the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Trump said U.S. pressure had weakened Iran’s leadership and asserted that Washington had granted a brief humanitarian pause.
“We knocked the hell out of Iran. They’re dying to settle. We gave them a week off for a funeral because we’re nice people,” Trump told the crowd.
The president also referred to Venezuela, claiming his administration had achieved a swift victory over its adversaries there.
“We beat Venezuela in one day,” he said, citing the episode as an example of what he described as the strength of the U.S. military.
Trump went on to praise the American economy, describing it as the strongest in the country’s history.
“We built the biggest and most dynamic economy and, by the way, our country today is doing better than it’s ever done before. Never had anything like it. With, as of last week, $19.2 trillion pouring into the United States right now from all over the world. That’s the investments being made, and the record was three. Four years and four years, the last administration did much less than one, and we did $19.2 trillion in 12 months,” he said.
He also credited tariffs and his administration’s business policies with driving a manufacturing resurgence across the country.
“Thanks to our great election win November 5th and the tariffs, plants and factories are being built all over the United States right now, and they’re being built at a number that we’ve never, ever seen before. So much more. We’re breaking records by double, triple, quadruple. We created the strongest and most powerful military. We won two world wars, the Cold War, and left America’s enemies in the depths of history,” Trump said.
Contrasting the current state of the nation with what he described as conditions under former President Joe Biden, Trump said the United States had gone from being “laughed at” and “mocked” to becoming the world’s leading destination for investment.
“Two years ago, we were laughed at, mocked, and a nation in decline… and today, we are the hottest country anywhere in the world,” he said. “We’re respected like no nation in the world is respected… and I want to tell you: the best is yet to come!”
Trump’s remarks came as Iran continued funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to Press TV, the tribute has drawn one of the largest international gatherings in Iran since Khamenei’s death. Iranian officials estimate that between 15 million and 20 million mourners will participate in the multi-day ceremonies.
The funeral events are scheduled to continue through the weekend, with Khamenei’s body lying in state at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla before a funeral procession through the capital on Monday. Additional ceremonies are planned in Qom, followed by rites in Baghdad, Karbala, and Najaf before the burial in Mashhad on July 9.
Organizers said the gates of the Grand Mosalla are expected to open to the public at 6 a.m. local time Saturday, although they noted the opening could occur earlier depending on circumstances. (ANI)
