Seattle, US, July 27 (ANI): Two people were killed and several others, including a child, were injured in a shooting incident at a food festival in Seattle on Sunday evening, CNN reported, citing fire officials.
The shooting took place near the Seattle Center, just a block away from the city’s iconic Space Needle, according to CNN.
The Seattle Fire Department said it responded to reports of a shooting at the Seattle Center shortly after 6 p.m. local time. In a statement, the department confirmed that two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while four others, including a 2-year-old child, were transported to hospitals.
Harborview Medical Center said all four patients suffered gunshot wounds. One woman was reported to be in critical condition. The hospital said the injuries involved different parts of the body, including the arm, leg, abdomen and lower leg. Fire officials also said that another woman declined medical treatment at the hospital.
Authorities have not released details about a suspect or confirmed whether anyone has been taken into custody. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
The incident occurred as the area hosted the annual Bite of Seattle Festival, which features hundreds of local vendors and live music performances.
CNN, citing the Gun Violence Archive, reported that the shooting is among at least 271 mass shootings recorded in the United States this year. The Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more victims are shot.
