Washington, D.C. [U.S.], August 25 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump’s popularity has hit a record low as Washington remains engaged in a prolonged conflict with Iran, with American public approval of the military action falling to its lowest level, according to a Reuters-Ipsos poll analyzed Monday.
The poll, conducted over four days, surveyed 1,215 American adults nationwide and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points in either direction.
Only 31% of Americans supported U.S. military action against Iran, down from 37% in the previous Reuters-Ipsos poll in March and 34% in another poll earlier this month.
According to the Reuters-Ipsos poll, about 69% of Republican respondents supported the war, compared with 77% in March. The decline was driven by fewer self-identified Republicans backing the conflict.
Notably, about 83% of Americans said they believed the conflict with Iran would continue “for an extended period of time,” according to the latest Reuters-Ipsos poll, up from 80% earlier this month.
Meanwhile, independent voters in the poll favored Democrats over Republicans, 33% to 19%, when asked whom they would vote for in congressional elections if the election were held today.
The decline in Trump’s ratings comes as the president campaigned during the 2024 presidential election on controlling inflation and avoiding lengthy military conflicts.
Now, six months into the war with Iran, U.S. gasoline prices are more than $1 higher per gallon than they were before the war, Reuters reported.
As developments continue in the region, the United States has announced a fresh wave of actions against individuals and entities it says are involved in the Iranian regime’s “weapons procurement; cyber intrusions into U.S. energy, defense, and health infrastructure; and the illicit oil shipments that fund terrorism across the Middle East.”
Tommy Pigott, principal deputy spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, called on the international community to join Washington in holding those involved accountable. (ANI)
