Washington, DC, October 6 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning that Tehran would “suffer greatly” if it was found responsible for security threats that prompted Washington to relocate military aircraft from Britain, while also affirming that he remained open to direct talks with Iranian leaders.
Speaking to reporters before departing aboard Marine One, Trump responded to questions about tensions in the Middle East, energy markets, the repositioning of U.S. bombers and an incident involving Flydubai.
Asked whether a specific threat had prompted the decision to withdraw bombers from British soil, Trump confirmed that threats had been received.
“Yeah, I think we can say that. I mean, they didn’t fly out by accident, yeah,” he said.
Elaborating, Trump said, “No, but there were some threats and, rather than tempting the enemy, we’ll capture the enemy and beat the enemy. But why should we leave them there? So, we moved them around a little bit, not very far.”
Although initial inquiries did not immediately identify the source of the threat, reporters asked whether combat drones might have been brought into Britain, prompting the tactical repositioning.
“I can’t tell you that but if they did, they’ll suffer greatly,” Trump said.
The U.S. president later said American intelligence had identified those responsible for the security warnings.
“So, we had a threat and if we’re going to be threatened, we’ll just move them and that sort of alleviates that. And we actually know the people that made the threat and they’ve got themselves a big problem,” Trump said.
Asked directly whether those individuals were connected to Iran, he replied, “They would be linked to Iran.”
Despite the security concerns, Trump expressed confidence in Britain, noting continued operational security and cooperation.
Asked whether Britain remained a secure environment for American personnel, he said, “I think it is and I have a very good relationship with your new prime minister.”
Despite his warnings to Tehran, Trump indicated that he was willing to engage diplomatically, affirming when asked whether he was open to direct talks with Iran.
During the exchange, Trump also alleged that Tehran was responsible for an airborne security incident involving Flydubai, saying, “I do; I personally do,” though he provided no further explanation or supporting evidence during his remarks.
Turning to economic indicators, fuel prices and disruptions affecting Russian refining infrastructure, Trump expressed optimism about commodity trends.
“Gasoline prices are going down very rapidly. When the war ends, they’ll drop like a rock and the war is going to end very soon,” he said.
While acknowledging that strikes on Russian refineries had created constraints on diesel supplies, prompting Washington and European partners to tap strategic reserves, Trump reiterated his administration’s broader geopolitical position.
“And oil prices are coming down and here’s the nice part, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” he said. (ANI)
