Washington, D.C., July 5: The United States marked the 250th anniversary of its independence with a grand “Salute to America” celebration on the National Mall, where President Donald Trump delivered a patriotic address honoring the nation’s founding, its enduring values, and its vision for the future.
The historic event, part of the nationwide Freedom 250 celebrations, drew thousands of Americans to the National Mall despite soaring temperatures and severe thunderstorms that briefly delayed the President’s appearance. “We are made in the courage, fire, flesh, and blood of the best and the bravest people this world has ever produced,” Trump declared.
He concluded one of the most applauded moments of his speech by proclaiming:
“Tonight, we pledge allegiance to the flag they gave us—and we say, ‘God bless the immortal patriots of 1776, and long live the cause of Independence!'”
The President said the anniversary represented not merely a milestone in American history but a celebration of the principles of liberty, democracy, and national unity that have guided the country for 250 years.

Reflecting on the nation’s journey since 1776, Trump described the United States as a beacon of hope for the world.
“For 250 years, the United States of America has been the hope, the promise, the light, and the glory among all the nations of the world,” he said.

“All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
He praised the 56 signatories of the Declaration, saying they “put everything at risk, stepped onto the stage of destiny, and seized a victory for the ages.”
Historic Flag Display
During the address, Trump unveiled one of the earliest American flags ever made, describing it as a symbol of the nation’s hard-fought independence.
Pointing to the historic Stars and Stripes, he remarked:
“These were the Stars and Stripes that flew triumphant when the British waved the white flag of surrender at Yorktown.”
He added that since that historic victory:
“The entire world has been on notice that Americans will never let anyone take our freedom away.”
Freedom 250: A Year-Long Celebration
The speech served as the centerpiece of the nationwide Freedom 250 initiative, commemorating America’s semiquincentennial.
The year-long observance began on Memorial Day in 2025 and will continue through the end of 2026, featuring celebrations across all 50 states.
The initiative includes participation from federal, state, and local governments, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, businesses, veterans’ groups, and millions of citizens celebrating the nation’s 250-year journey.
Americans Brave Heat and Storms to Celebrate
Despite extreme weather conditions, thousands gathered in Washington to participate in the historic festivities.
Many attendees endured temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit before returning later in the evening despite thunderstorms to witness the fireworks and the President’s address.
One attendee told ANI that being present at the celebration was about preserving the American story for future generations.
“It’s always been important to be here. It’s good for everybody to represent and pass on the story,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of America’s sense of unity, adding:
“It’s always good to pass on the kind of brotherhood that we have here as Americans.”
“Wonderful Country”
Among those attending was John Herman of Leesburg, Virginia, who described the anniversary as a celebration of a nation built on strength and opportunity.
Calling himself a proud patriot, Herman said:
“Two hundred and fifty years of great power, kind people, wonderful country. I’m so thankful to be here.”
He added that every American should be grateful for the opportunity to live in the United States.
Trump’s Arrival
Following weather-related delays, President Trump announced his arrival at the National Mall with a brief post on his social media platform, Truth Social, writing:
“I’M HERE!!!”
His arrival was greeted by enthusiastic crowds waving American flags and cheering as the celebrations resumed.

The 250th anniversary celebrations mark one of the largest patriotic commemorations in modern American history, honoring the nation’s founding in 1776 while looking toward its future.
