Qeshm, Iran, July 30 (ANI): Search and rescue operations are underway in Iran’s Qeshm after a residential home was struck, with two children rescued from the rubble and taken to medical facilities, Iranian state media IRIB reported.
The Director General of Crisis Management for Hormozgan Province said rescue efforts were continuing following the strike on a home in the Chah-Tango neighborhood of Qeshm.
“So far, two children have been pulled out from under the rubble and transferred to medical centers, and efforts are ongoing to rescue three other members of this family,” the official said.
According to IRIB, the house was occupied by a family of five who were inside the building at the time of the strike.
Meanwhile, several explosions were reported in four cities in Khuzestan Province—Shadegan, Arvandkenar, Abadan, and Ahvaz. IRIB reported that more than seven locations in Ahvaz were affected by the explosions.
Two additional explosions were reported in Bandar Abbas. Initial investigations indicated they may have originated from areas surrounding the city.
Similar explosions were also reported on the islands of Abu Musa and Kish, as well as in the waters near Qeshm and the Strait of Hormuz.
According to preliminary information cited by IRIB, the explosions may have been linked to defensive operations by Iran’s armed forces in the Strait of Hormuz, although authorities said the exact cause remains under investigation.
The developments come after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out a “heavy wave of strikes” against dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran on Wednesday (local time), describing the operation as a response to attempted Iranian missile attacks on US forces in West Asia.
The strikes, completed at 10 p.m. ET on July 29, targeted IRGC command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities, according to a CENTCOM press release.
CENTCOM said the operation was intended to “further diminish threats posed by Iran and its proxies to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighboring Gulf countries.”
According to CENTCOM, the US action followed what it described as an “attempted surprise attack” in which IRGC forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran at US forces stationed in West Asia.
“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” CENTCOM said.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump reiterated his warning of military action against Iran, saying Washington plans to strike Tehran “very hard” and declaring that “it’s our turn to hit them.”
Speaking during an Oval Office appearance, Trump said he had been briefed on the earlier explosion at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta, adding that “it’s going to be straightened out.”
Directing another warning toward Tehran, Trump said, “They know it’s coming.”
Trump also left open the possibility of future diplomacy, saying, “We’ll see if we get there with an agreement at some point,” before repeating his warning of military action. (ANI)
