NEW DELHI, Aug. 4 (ANI) — The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs will meet Tuesday to hear testimony from representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs on the topic, “India-Sri Lanka Relations and the Way Ahead.”
According to the committee’s schedule, the meeting will be held at the Parliament House Annexe Extension Building in the national capital.
The committee will examine the views and inputs of Ministry of External Affairs officials on India-Sri Lanka relations and the future direction of bilateral ties.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs.
Last month, the committee, led by Tharoor, visited Jammu as part of its ongoing engagements in the Union Territory.
Committee members held discussions with officials at the Regional Passport Office and met with representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs who had been deputed from New Delhi during the visit.
Speaking to reporters at the time, Tharoor praised the Border Security Force (BSF) for its role in safeguarding the country and said every citizen should have the opportunity to witness its work along the border.
“What the BSF soldiers do for our country, keeping us safe, is truly commendable. I believe everyone should witness this firsthand. Every Indian citizen should take the opportunity to visit the border and see the work our soldiers are doing. It was a wonderful experience,” Tharoor said.
He also emphasized the need to strengthen tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the region should continue moving toward normalcy and the smooth functioning of all sectors.
The committee visited Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from June 22 to 25.
The study tour was intended to give members of the parliamentary panel first-hand insight into strategic and security issues in the border regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, particularly in the context of India’s relations with China and Pakistan. (ANI)
