GUWAHATI, Assam, July 19: BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Brojen Mahanta on Sunday congratulated Olympian Lovlina Borgohain on being named the flag bearer of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, expressing confidence that the accomplished boxer will bring further glory to the nation through her outstanding performance.
The Indian Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have appointed Borgohain as the flag bearer for the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
In a statement, Mahanta also extended his best wishes to every athlete representing India at the Games, including distinguished lawn bowl players Nayanmoni Saikia and Putul Sonowal, wishing the entire Indian contingent resounding success.
Mahanta also highlighted the achievements of Assam’s film industry, saying it continues to enhance the state’s reputation at both the national and international levels.
He noted with pride that Juiful, written, directed, and produced by Jadumoni Dutta, received the Rajat Kamal Award for Best Assamese Feature Film at the 72nd National Film Awards (2024).
Congratulating everyone associated with the film, Mahanta said the prestigious recognition reflects the continued resurgence of Assamese cinema, which has now completed more than a century of its distinguished journey.
He also noted that Article 370 was honored with the award for Best Feature Film at the National Film Awards.
Mahanta further said the Assam Budget for 2026-27, presented in the Assam Legislative Assembly on July 10, includes several forward-looking initiatives aimed at accelerating the development of the state’s sports and cultural sectors, along with other key areas.
As part of these initiatives, the state government has allocated funds for feature films based on the lives of Veer Lachit Borphukan, the legendary military commander and symbol of Assamese valor, and Swahid Kushal Konwar, the revered freedom fighter and martyr.
He added that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already held discussions with acclaimed filmmaker Aditya Dhar on the proposed film depicting the life and legacy of Veer Lachit Borphukan. (ANI)
