NEW DELHI, Aug. 3 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that he will lead a march to the prime minister’s residence on Tuesday to personally deliver a petition signed by more than 233,000 people opposing what he called the government’s “flawed” ethanol policy.
Addressing reporters, Kejriwal said, “A few days ago, we launched an online petition addressed to the Prime Minister, and approximately 233,238 people signed it within just a short period. Tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., I will set out from my office with a group of a hundred people to head toward the Prime Minister’s residence. We want to hand over this petition to him personally and discuss why the ethanol policy is flawed.”
Speaking at a town hall event outside the Constitution Club in New Delhi on Saturday, Kejriwal said more than 200,000 people had already signed the online petition.
“On Tuesday, the 4th, at 12:00 p.m., I will personally go to the Prime Minister’s residence to hand over the petition,” he said.
Kejriwal said only 100 people would accompany him on the march.
“There is no need for everyone to come along. I will take 100 people with me who are not afraid of police batons. I will take 100 people with me who are not afraid of going to jail. Those who wish to join should write to me, tag me and send me a message. We will take 100 people with us, march toward the Prime Minister’s residence, and then see what happens,” he said.
The march marks the latest escalation in the AAP’s campaign against the central government’s E20 fuel policy.
During the town hall program, Kejriwal outlined three demands: that fuel stations offer both E20 fuel and pure gasoline, that E20 be priced lower than pure gasoline, and that the price of gasoline be reduced to less than 84 rupees ($0.96) per liter.
He also urged consumers to postpone purchasing new vehicles until automobiles compatible with E100 ethanol become available in India.
“I appeal to the people of my country to stop buying petrol and diesel vehicles. Until E100 vehicles start being manufactured in the country, do not buy a vehicle. This government will ruin you,” he said in a post on X. (ANI)
