The year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 1776, known as the country’s Semiquincentennial. To commemorate the milestone, a fleet of some of the world’s most impressive international tall ships and military vessels will sail into the Port of Boston as part of Sail250, according to the Sail250 website.
Sail Boston is one of a select group of U.S. ports chosen to host the Sail250 international fleet, alongside New Orleans, Norfolk, Baltimore, and New York City.
For only the fifth time since 1992, tall ships and military vessels from around the world are gathering in Boston Harbor, where the public can watch the Parade of Sail and tour participating ships free of charge. Organizers expect more than 4 million visitors to attend, according to CBS News.
This year’s event coincides with the United States’ 250th birthday celebrations. Sail Boston 2026 is scheduled to run from Saturday, July 11, through Thursday, July 16, according to CBS News. Boston is the final stop on the Sail250 tour after the fleet visited New York City from July 4 to July 8 for Independence Day celebrations. (ANI)
