New Delhi, India, August 11 (ANI): India’s net direct tax collections rose 23.09 percent year over year to Rs. 8.11 lakh crore as of August 10, 2026, from Rs. 6.59 lakh crore during the corresponding period last year, according to data released by the Income Tax Department.
The strong growth in direct tax collections was led by non-corporate taxes, securities transaction tax and corporate tax collections, pointing to a broad-based increase in tax receipts during the ongoing financial year.
Gross direct tax collections stood at Rs. 9.55 lakh crore as of August 10, up 19.75 percent from Rs. 7.97 lakh crore recorded during the same period in 2025. After accounting for refunds, net collections stood at Rs. 8.11 lakh crore.
Non-corporate tax collections, which include taxes paid by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, firms, associations of persons, bodies of individuals, local authorities and artificial juridical persons, rose to Rs. 5.07 lakh crore from Rs. 4.11 lakh crore a year earlier.
This represented growth of around 23.4 percent and made non-corporate tax the largest contributor to overall net direct tax collections during the period.
Net corporate tax collections also increased, rising to Rs. 2.70 lakh crore from Rs. 2.26 lakh crore in the year-ago period, a growth of around 19.8 percent.
Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections rose to Rs. 33,823.74 crore from Rs. 22,354.31 crore a year earlier. However, the data showed a marginal decline in net collections under other taxes.
Refunds during the period increased 3.79 percent year over year to Rs. 1.43 lakh crore, compared with Rs. 1.38 lakh crore during the corresponding period last year.
The latest collection data indicate that direct tax revenues have maintained strong momentum in the early months of fiscal year 2026-27, with both corporate and non-corporate segments contributing significantly to the increase.
The government’s net direct tax collections had stood at Rs. 6.59 lakh crore as of August 10, 2025. The increase in net direct tax collections this year represents an additional Rs. 1.52 lakh crore in net revenue over the comparable period. (ANI)
