New York, August 24 (ANI): An Indian national lost his life following a shooting incident in Brooklyn, New York.
The victim, Gurdeep Singh, died in the incident, prompting the Consulate General of India in New York to reach out to his bereaved family and offer support.
Expressing grief over the tragedy, the Consulate General of India in New York said in a post on X, “We are deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Mr. Gurdeep Singh, an Indian national, who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in Brooklyn, New York. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family during this difficult time. The Consulate is in touch with the family and is extending all possible assistance.”
Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities in New York have launched an investigation into the fatal late-night altercation in the East New York neighborhood. No suspects have been taken into custody, and the motive behind the incident remains under investigation.
According to CBS News, Singh, who lived in Queens, sustained fatal gunshot wounds at approximately 10 p.m. local time Friday near Stanley Avenue.
Police officers arriving at the scene found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency responders rushed him to a medical facility, where doctors pronounced him dead.
CCTV footage obtained by CBS News showed two individuals involved in a physical altercation in the street, followed by a sudden flash indicating a gunshot. The footage then showed one man collapsing on the pavement while the other entered a vehicle and fled the scene.
The report said law enforcement personnel searched the surrounding area for physical evidence until Saturday morning as the investigation continued.
Expressing concern about public safety, Anthony Santos, an employee working near the scene, told CBS News that the incident left him “shocked” and “afraid.” (ANI)
