NAGAON, India, Aug. 4 (ANI) — A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan allegedly opened fire on fellow personnel Tuesday morning, killing two colleagues before dying by suicide at the Katimari CRPF camp in Assam’s Nagaon district, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Sub-Inspector (GD) Ramnawal Singh Yadav, Head Constable (GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel, and the alleged shooter. The injured personnel was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (Mane) Govind Sripul.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. inside the premises of the 34 Battalion CRPF camp. A fourth jawan sustained serious gunshot injuries during the shooting and was rushed for emergency medical treatment.
According to local police, the alleged shooter was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (GD) Ballani Premabaram.
Abotani Doley, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Nagaon district, said police received information about the shooting at the 34 Battalion CRPF camp in Katimari.
“Immediately, we rushed to the spot, and one ASI, Ballani Premabaram, opened fire, and four casualties are there. Two people died on the spot, one died at the hospital, and one injured person was shifted to Guwahati,” Doley said.
