Manama, Bahrain, July 8 (ANI): Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior on Wednesday activated emergency warning sirens, urging all citizens and residents to remain calm and proceed immediately to the nearest safe location.
In a formal announcement, authorities advised the public to prioritize their safety and avoid unnecessary movement while the situation is being addressed. Residents were also urged to monitor official communication channels for real-time updates and further instructions from government officials.
In a post on X, the ministry said, “The alarm siren has been activated. Citizens and residents are requested to remain calm, head to the nearest safe location, and follow updates through official channels.”
The development comes after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it carried out a series of counteroffensive strikes on July 7, targeting more than 80 military sites inside Iran with precision-guided munitions.
In a post on X, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf outlined what he described as several “major violations” of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the U.S. administration, signaling a sharp deterioration in diplomatic commitments between the two countries.
Warning against Washington’s hard-line approach and emphasizing Tehran’s refusal to yield under military and economic pressure, Ghalibaf concluded his statement by saying, “The era of bullying and extortion is over. It leads nowhere. We don’t fold.”
According to U.S. defense officials, the strikes were aimed primarily at degrading Iran’s maritime offensive capabilities. The targets included command-and-control networks, air defense systems, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile sites, and more than 60 small boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The Pentagon said the objective of the operation was to reduce Iran’s ability to carry out further attacks on commercial shipping in the strategically important maritime corridor.
CENTCOM said the U.S. military action was launched in response to attacks on three commercial tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels were identified as the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan, and the Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity.
In a post on X, CENTCOM said, “The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.”
Following the strikes, Iranian state media reported multiple explosions in the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik, as well as on Qeshm Island. The reports also said fires broke out at the Sirik pier and Shahid Haqqani Port in Bandar Abbas.
Iran’s official news agency IRNA, citing the office of the governor of Hormozgan province, said that “to date, there have been no civilian casualty reports resulting from Tuesday evening’s attacks by the American adversary.”
The latest operation marks the first direct U.S. military action against Iran since late June, when a brief period of intense exchanges between the two countries ended with a temporary cessation of hostilities under a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding. (ANI)
