Tehran, Iran, October 12 (ANI): Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei claimed Monday that the United States had agreed to some of Iran’s seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, while describing Washington’s response as “inadequate.”
“The U.S. has agreed to some of Iran’s seven conditions, but we consider its response INADEQUATE. Iranian diplomacy has changed, and there will be no return to the status quo ante,” Rezaei posted on X.
Earlier this month, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the strategic Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States met seven conditions based on the 14-point June Memorandum of Understanding.
Ghalibaf said the U.S. had recently submitted proposals through a mediator, but Iran’s position remained unchanged.
According to Al Jazeera, Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming negotiations if Washington meets its conditions, which include ending the U.S. naval blockade and lifting restrictions on Iranian oil sales.
Last month, Iran conveyed seven conditions to the United States through Qatari mediators as a basis for negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that Tehran might intensify its actions against Washington ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. He said the U.S. administration believed Iran was acting under the impression that such measures would harm the United States.
Speaking at a political event in Tennessee, a traditional Republican stronghold, Trump maintained that Washington had the capacity to end the ongoing war quickly.
“They’ll probably do a little bit extra before the election, thinking it’s going to hurt us,” Trump said, adding, “But we could end it really quick.”
Trump pointed to his administration’s restraint despite what he described as the degradation of Iran’s naval forces, saying, “They don’t know how nice I’ve been to them.”
He further claimed that 159 Iranian ships had been sunk since late February, when the ongoing war began. (ANI)
