Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 10 (ANI): Under the proposed population control bill in Uttar Pradesh, any couple who would follow the two-child policy will receive perks from the government, said state’s Law Commission chairman Aditya Nath Mittal on Saturday.
Uttar Pradesh Law Commission has released the first draft of the proposed ‘UP Population (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill, 2021‘ in the public domain and invited public suggestions by July 19.
“State Law Commission has given a proposal for population control and welfare. We have proposed that any couple that follows the two-child policy will be given all government benefits. They will be able to avail all government welfare schemes,” said Mittal while talking to ANI.
The UP Law Commission chairman informed that the new bill has provisions to debar people, who have more than two children, from benefitting government schemes.
“If somebody doesn’t follow this policy, they won’t be eligible for such schemes. Their ration card will be restricted to four units. They will not be able to apply for government jobs and if they are already government employees, then they won’t get a promotion,” Mittal stated.
However, the Law Commission chairman added that adherence to the policy will be a voluntary exercise. “If a person voluntarily keeps the number of his family members limited, they will be eligible for government schemes. We are planning to present the Bill to the government by the second week of August,” he added.
The draft law comes ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
VHP objects to parts of UP population control bill, says will create ‘imbalance’
By Aashique Hussain
New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): The second part of the proposed population control bill in Uttar Pradesh which specifies more benefits for a couple having only one child will create an “imbalance in the ratio of Hindu and Muslim populations”, said the International working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Alok Kumar on Saturday.
Speaking to ANI, Kumar said, “We welcome the government’s move of bringing a law regarding population because the population is increasing like an explosion in the entire country. There is a consensus in the whole society about controlling the population growth.”
But the VHP leader raised concerns against the second part of the proposed bill where it says that a couple having only one child will get some more benefits. He suggested that this provision might create a population imbalance among Hindus and Muslims.
“The first part of this bill mentions that a couple having two children will get the benefit of government facilities. But, in the second part, it has been said that the couple having only one child will get some more benefits. We object to this part because it will create an imbalance in the ratio of Hindu and Muslim populations. The government should think again about this because it leads to negative growth in population,” he stated.

Asked if Champat Rai would be removed from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, Alok Kumar said “Govind Dev ji had taken chartered accountants and lawyers with him to investigate the allegations against Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. Each sale deed has been carefully checked and we are satisfied that all the land purchased has been purchased with sufficient care.”
“We have benefited from Champat ji’s experience. There is not a single case due to which a finger can be pointed at Champat ji. For this reason, there is no question to replace Champat ji,” he added.
Kumar further said that the trust will decide who will be the trustee in Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. “The Central Government has no right to make any trustee or make a member, it is clearly written in the trust deed.” (ANI)
We’ll implement whatever is in favour of Uttarakhand, says CM Dhami on population control policy
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 13 (ANI): Just days after Uttar Pradesh unveiled its proposed population control policy, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke on the matter and said that his government will implement whatever is in favour of the people of Uttarakhand.
While speaking to the reporters yesterday on whether the state would bring a law on population control, Dhami said, “Law on population control, land laws, various other laws and acts which are already in place will be implemented if it is in the favour for the people of Uttarakhand.”
This comes in the backdrop of the Population Policy 2021-2030 unveiled by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adtyanath on Sunday.
Yesterday, Uttarakhand BJP leaders held a meeting in the state titled “Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mission 2022“. After the meeting was concluded, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and BJP State President Madan Kaushik addressed the media personnel.
“Today, we gave the slogan ‘Yuva Mukhyamantri–60+ seats’ and with this resolution we started the election campaign (for 2022 Assembly polls). We’ll go with this programme among the people and other works we’ve done,” said Kaushik.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke on the upcoming Kanwar yatra to be held in the state and said that God would not like anyone to die, amidst the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Kanwar Yatra is not solely a matter for the state of Uttarakhand. Kanwar yatra is a matter of shraddha (reverence) and aastha (faith). God would not like anyone to die,” said the Chief Minister.
As per the Hindu traditions, Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of devotees of Shiva to Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand wherein devotees fetch holy waters of the Ganga River and seek blessings of God.
This comes around a time when Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said that the Kanwar Yatra is not a one-state affair and the state government will take the decision regarding the yatra after discussing with other states, including Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
