Washington, DC [US], September 16 (ANI): Former US President Donald Trump is “safe following gunshots in his vicinity,” the Trump Campaign said in a statement on Sunday, according to CNN.
The former president was playing golf at West Palm Beach’s Trump International Golf Club. As per a reliable source, the course was immediately secured following gunshots in the vicinity.
“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.
However, he did not provide further details on the matter.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Secret Service are collaborating to look into a protective incident involving Trump, the Secret Service stated on X.
The incident happened just before 2:00 p.m. (local time), the Secret Service said.

According to the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden have both been informed about the security issue involving the former president when he was golfing earlier on Sunday and are both “relieved to know” that Donald Trump is safe, reported CNN.
“The President and Vice President have been briefed about the security incident at the Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was golfing. They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team,” according to a statement from the White House.
Harris, sharing a post on social media, said that there is no place for violence in America.
“I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe,” the US Vice President wrote on X.

Following an alleged assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden expressed relief that his predecessor was unharmed and asserted that there is no place for political violence or any violence in the country.
This comes hours after gunfire was reported near Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach. The former president’s campaign declared him “safe'” The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Sunday that it “is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination,”
President Biden commended the Secret Service for their ‘vigilance’ and keeping the former president ‘safe’. He further said that one suspect has been held in custody and an active investigation is underway.
“I have been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today. A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe,” Biden said in a statement.
He further said that he has directed his team to ensure that the Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure to ensure Trump’s continued safety.
“I am relieved that the former President is unharmed. There is an active investigation into this incident as law enforcement gathers more details about what happened. As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President’s continued safety,” Biden added.
According to Bradshaw, a Secret Service agent ‘engaged’ with the individual after spotting a rifle barrel. According to an official, the individual, who was subsequently placed under arrest, was 300-500 yards away from Trump, according to CNN.
Notably, this is the second assassination attempt on Trump during this presidential campaign. Trump was also the target of an attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

During a Sunday press conference, West Palm Beach Sheriff Ric Bradshaw stated that the Secret Service had fired rounds around 1:30 pm ET.
