New Delhi [India] September 26 (ANI): After over a month-long battle at the Intensive Care Unit of MGM Healthcare in Chennai, Balasubrahmanyam, popularly known as SPB, died on Friday afternoon. He was 74. The mortal remains of the popular singer were brought to his farmhouse in Thamaraipakkam village of Thiruvallore district on Friday night for last rites.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah among other political personalities offered condolences on the death of legendary musician Padma Bhusan S P Balasubrahmanyam on Friday.
Following the sad news, tributes from across sections poured on Twitter.
The President tweeted: “In the passing of music legend SP Balasubrahmanyam Indian music has lost one of its most melodious voices. Called ‘Paadum Nila’ or ‘Singing Moon’ by his countless fans, he was honoured with Padma Bhushan and many National Awards. Condolences to his family, friends and admirers.”
PM Modi tweeted: “With the unfortunate demise of Shri SP Balasubrahmanyam, our cultural world is a lot poorer. A household name across India, his melodious voice and music enthralled audiences for decades. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
The Vice-President expressed his shock. “Shocked at the tragic demise of the legendary musician Shri S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. He leaves a void in the world of music that is virtually impossible to fill.”
Terming this as “personal tragedy as we both belong to Nellore”, he wrote, “His mellifluous voice, passionate love for languages and literature and genial humour have left an indelible impact on millions of admirers, including me…My heartfelt condolences to his family. Om Shanti!”
Shah said he will forever remain in “our memories through his melodious voice & unparalleled music compositions.”

Offering condolences on the death of legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam on Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said he has left a big void in Indian music, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said his voice would live on.
The 74-year-old musician died at a hospital in Chennai on Friday, following over a month-long fight with COVID-19.
Singh took to Twitter to express his anguish, saying Balasubrahmanyam “has left a big void in the Indian music industry.” “He was popular among the music lovers for his beautiful renditions in some of the iconic films. My heartfelt condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti!” he tweeted.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said his voice that touched millions of lives will live on.
“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Mr SP Balasubrahmanyam. His songs touched millions of hearts in many languages. His voice will live on.”

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India] September 25 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan and Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed their grief at the demise of legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam on Friday in Chennai.
Governor Harichandan said Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam is a household name not only in Andhra, but the entire country as an iconic playback singer in 16 languages, predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam.
“Balasubrahmanyam also held the Guinness World Record for recording more than 40,000 songs, highest by a singer. He received several coveted awards apart from Padma Bhushan in 2011. Among them are six National Film Awards and 25 Nandi Awards for his contribution to Indian cinema,” said Governor Harichandan, praying for peace to the departed soul and offering his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
Conveying his condolences to the family members, the Chief Minister said Balasubrahmanyam, popularly known as SPB, has been “the refreshing notation of film music spanning over five decades, enthralling the connoisseurs and common people alike through his multifaceted talent”. (ANI)
