Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 13 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan on Tuesday said that the nomination process for Rajya Sabha elections will begin tomorrow, August 14 and the last date for submission of papers is August 21 in the state.
He said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notification for the upper house elections on August 7.
The chief electoral officer further said that the nomination papers would be scrutinised on August 22 and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is August 26.
Polling will be held on September 3 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes will be done on the same day.
The ECI has announced the polling for 12 vacant seats in Rajya Sabha in nine states. Of these, there are two vacant seats each in Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra while one seat each in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha.
The last date of withdrawal of candidatures for Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tripura is August 26 and for Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan Telangana and Odisha it is August 27.
One Rajya Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh got vacant after Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) in Lok Sabha from Guna constituency in the recently concluded general elections 2024. (ANI)
