Washington DC [US], November 18 (ANI): United States President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday named Commissioner Brendan Carr as the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The FCC regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and US territories. An independent US government agency overseen by Congress, the Commission is the federal agency responsible for implementing and enforcing America’s communications law and regulations.
Sharing a post on X, Carr wrote, Thank you, President Trump! I am humbled and honoured to serve as Chairman of the FCC. Now we get to work – United States.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Trump said, “I am pleased to announce that Commissioner Brendan Carr will be Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Commissioner Carr currently serves as the senior Republican on the FCC. Before that, he was the FCC‘s General Counsel. I first nominated Commissioner Carr to the FCC in 2017, and he has been confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate three times.”
The statement added, “His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman.”
The statement by Trump further called Carr a “warrior for Free Speech.” “Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy. He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America. Congratulations to Chairman Brendan Carr on a job well done. Lead us into a great future, Brendan!” the statement added.
Notably, Carr has served at the FCC since 2012, including as an Advisor to then FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai. Earlier in his career, Commissioner Carr worked as an attorney specialising in Appellate, Litigation, and Regulatory matters.
Previously, Commissioner Carr clerked on the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit for Judge Dennis Shedd. After attending Georgetown University for his undergrad, Commissioner Carr earned his JD Magna Cum Laude from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law where he served as an Editor of the Catholic University Law Review.
US President-elect Trump names Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary
Washington DC [US], November 16 (ANI): US President-elect Donald Trump on Friday announced the name of Karoline Leavitt as the latest addition to his cabinet to serve as the White House Press Secretary.
Leavitt, who previously held the role of National Press Secretary for Trump’s 2024 US Presidential campaign, was also part of the Trump administration as the Assistant Press Secretary of the White House during his first tenure.
In a statement, Trump praised Leavitt for her work on his campaign and said that he was pleased to announce her name as the White House Press Secretary.
He noted that Leavitt was “smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator” and that he had the utmost confidence in her to excel at the position.
“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary. Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again,” the statement read.
Trumps picks Chris Wright as Energy Secretary
Washington DC [US], November 17 (ANI): United States President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday named CEO of Liberty Energy, Chris Wright as the secretary of the Department of Energy, CNN reported.
The CEO of a Denver-based fracking company will also serve as a member of the newly formed Council of National Energy. Trump said that the council will consist of all agencies involved in the “permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation, transportation” of energy. “Chris has been a leading technologist and entrepreneur in Energy. He has worked in Nuclear, Solar, Geothermal, and Oil and Gas. Most significantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American Shale Revolution that fueled American Energy Independence, and transformed the Global Energy Markets and Geopolitics,” Trump wrote in a statement Saturday, according to CNN.
Wright also serves on the board of a modular nuclear reactor company.
Since Biden’s administration, the US has focused on developing nuclear energy and with the appointment of Wright, Trump takes another step toward achieving the US’s energy dominance.
The United States Department of Energy manages the country’s energy policy and production. It also focuses on the production of nuclear weapons and promotes scientific research.
Wright has been a supporter of fossil fuels and said that they are necessary to fight against poverty. He has expressed doubts over fossil fuels’ contribution in climate change, CNN reported.
Earlier, US President-elect Trump selected his campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, as White House communications director as well as named Sergio Gor to lead the Presidential Personnel Office.
Meanwhile on Thursday, former Georgia Congressman Doug Collins was nominated by Trump for the next US Secretary of Veterans Affaiss (VA).
Trump also announced the name of Robert F Kennedy Jr. as the next US Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
On Wednesday, Trump nominated Congressman Matt Gaetz to be the Attorney General of the US, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as Secretary of State and former Congresswoman Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence (DNI).
Additionally this week, he announced Tesla CEO Elon Musk, along with Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).Moreover, Trump nominated former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Joseph McGinley as White House Counsel, former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin as Administrator of the United States Environmental Protective Agency (EPA), and Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense.
Trump picks Steven Cheung as White House communications director
Washington [US], November 16 (ANI): President-elect Donald Trump selected his campaign spokesman Steven Cheung as White House communications director, CNN reported.
Cheung, who served as director of strategic response during Trump’s first term, will now be serving as assistant to the president and director of communications.
Additionally, Sergio Gor has been selected to lead the Presidential Personnel Office, CNN reported.
“Steven Cheung and Sergio Gor have been trusted Advisors since my first Presidential Campaign in 2016, and have continued to champion America First principles throughout my First Term, all the way to our Historic Victory in 2024,” Trump said in a statement. “I am thrilled to have them join my White House as we, Make America Great Again!”
Notably, the position of White House communication director is separate from the White House press secretary. Trump is yet to announce a press secretary.
Cheung has served as a spokesman for the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the past.
Earlier, Trump picked North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum to lead the Department of the Interior.
The announcement, made at the America First Policy Institute Gala at Mar-a-Lago, came with a note of excitement, CNN stated.
Trump stated, “I look forward to doing the formal announcement, although this is a pretty big announcement right now. He’s going to head the Department of Interior, and it’s going to be fantastic.”
Burgum, who challenged Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, will inherit the Department from Secretary Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve in a Cabinet position. The Department oversees the nation’s public lands, natural resources, and Indian affairs.
Cheung and Agor are the latest in a series of controversial picks by Trump, who has named over 20 individuals for high-level positions in his administration. Among these appointments are Fox News host Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defence, former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr as Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz as Attorney General. (ANI)
