New Delhi [India], December 27 (ANI): Union Minister Anurag Thakur responding to Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda’s statement about EVMs, on Wednesday said that following the defeat in a recent assembly election Congress is looking for excuses instead of finding out the reason for defeat.
Pitroda urged the Congress and the INDIA bloc members to take the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) “seriously” as the 2024 Lok Sabha election will decide the “destiny of the nation” when he was asked about the questions being raised by some opposition parties on the functioning of EVMs.
“I would request my party and the alliance members to take this matter very seriously. It is not a simple issue. Don’t overlook it because the 2024 election will decide the destiny of the nation. It will decide the path that India going to take in the future. I see that democracy is undermined today. A PM of a country does not hold a press conference for 10 years, that bothers me. Prime Minister giving more time in the temple, that bothers me,” Pitroda added.
Responding to Pitroda’s remarks, Thakur said, “After defeat in elections, they (Congress) are looking for excuses but not the reason for defeat.” “When they won in one state, whether there is a different EVM there? Now even the public laughs at them. They are the people who used to claim that they had bought computers and today they are opposing technology,” said Thakur when questioned about EVM.
Further, when asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi undertaking ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra‘ Thakur alleged Congress of not being able to give justice to the victims of the 1980 riots. “You included members of ‘tukde tukde gang’, try to divide Bharat into region and caste they are not going to offer justice. They had 1984 riots in their own states and not been able to give justice to them, while Narendra Modi government also conducted an SIT inquiry in it,” he said.
“All their leader of alliance partners kept abusing Sanatam Dhram and making one after another shallow statements. While on the other hand Modi government has only one agenda welfare of poorer and development of nation and PM Modi’s government has set new standards of good governance,” added Thakur. (ANI)
