New Delhi [India], December 21 (ANI): Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Motilal Vohra passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Monday at the age of 93.
Following the demise of veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute issued a statement in which it said that he was admitted under critical care in the cardiology department on December 19 on complaints of hypotension and died after experiencing a septic shock on Monday afternoon.
Three-day state mourning in Chhattisgarh on demise of Motilal Vora
Chhattisgarh Government declared a three-day state mourning till December 23 on the demise of former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Motilal Vora, on Monday. He was 93.
The Chhattisgarh government said in a release: “In this duration of state mourning, national flags hoisted on government buildings will remain at half-mast and no entertainment or cultural programme will be organised. The state government has also decided that the last rites of Motilal Vora would be performed with state honour.”
Veteran Congress leader Vora was admitted under critical care in Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, on December 19 on complaints of hypotension and died after experiencing a septic shock on Monday afternoon.
As per the statement, the Fortis hospital said that he had hypotension and hypoxemia on December 21 morning after which he was intubated.
“Motilal Vora (93) was admitted on December 19 with complaints of Dyspnea with altered sensorium and hypotension. He was admitted under critical care and cardiologist Dr Sameer Srivastava, Director Cardiology, in Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. On December 21 morning he had hypotension and hypoxemia for which he was intubated. He experienced septic shock post that. And he was declared dead at 3:52 pm,” the statement read.
“Vora was detected with COVID-19 in October but recovered and got discharged on October 16. Vora was admitted to the Escorts Hospital in Okhla here a few days ago with a urinary infection,” it added.
The senior Congress leader was discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on October 16 after recovering from COVID-19.
Vora was a Rajya Sabha member from Chhattisgarh from April 10, 2002 to April 9, 2020.
The late Congress leader became the 15th chief minister of Madhya Pradesh on March 13, 1985 and was in office till February 13, 1988. He held office as chief minister of the state for another term between January 25, 1989 and December 9, 1989.
Vora also held the office of Governor of Uttar Pradesh between 1993 and 1996.
Vora was born on December 20, 1927 at Nimbi Jodha near Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday condoled the demise of veteran party leader Motilal Vora saying that his life is a shining example of public service and he was a true Congress leader.
Several other party leaders also expressed their condolences on the demise of the leader who was a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and former Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
Sonia Gandhi said Motilal Vora‘s demise has left a huge void that would be difficult to fill. “His life is a shining example of public service and unparalleled commitment to the Congress ideology. We will always miss his guidance and his selfless service. My heartfelt condolences to the family,” she said.
Manmohan Singh wrote a letter to Arun, son of Motilal Vora, and said the country has lost a veteran Congress leader and an excellent administrator.”I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of senior Congress leader and my esteemed colleague in Rajya Sabha Motilal Vora ji. He was a true Congress leader with a lot of administrative and political experience. He served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Treasurer of Indian National Congress for 16 years. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the former Prime Minister said.
Party leader P Chidambaram lauded Motilal Vora‘s work ethic and said that every party worker should imbibe and practise that. “I join thousands of Congress workers to mourn the passing away of veteran leader Motilal Voraji. Few have served the Congress party with such total devotion and loyalty for so long and so selflessly,” Chidambaram said.
“His work ethic is a quality that every Congress worker should imbibe and practise. May Voraji’s soul rest in eternal peace!” he added. Party leader Mallikarjun Kharge also paid his tributes to Motilal Vora.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday condoled demise of senior party leader Motilal Vora and described him as “true Congressman and a wonderful human being”. “Vora ji was a true congressman and a wonderful human being. We will miss him very much. My love and condolences to his family and friends,” Gandhi tweeted.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday condoled the demise of veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora who passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Monday at the age of 93. “Motilal Vora was present in all the meetings (of the party) even at the age of 92 and presented his views openly on all decisions. Today when we are bidding him goodbye, it feels as if a senior member of the family has passed away. We will all remember him fondly,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday condoled the demise of veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora who passed away aged 93 at a Delhi hospital earlier in the day. “Sad to hear that veteran Congress leader Shri Motilal Vora is no more. He was humility personified, and belonged to a generation of leaders who carry their politics with unflinching conviction till the end. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” President Kovind tweeted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the demise of veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora and hailed him for his vast administrative and organisational experience. “Shri Motilal Vora Ji was among the senior-most Congress leaders, who had vast administrative and organisational experience in a political career that spanned decades. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and well-wishers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.
