Cannes [France], May 18 (ANI): Music maestro AR Rahman wants to ‘break boundaries’ and ‘start a new path’ for India on the international level via his directorial debut ‘Le Musk’. During the inauguration of the India pavilion at Cannes 2022 on Wednesday, Rahman explained why he chose the English language for his debut directorial.

“I made this film in English language so that it reaches to International audience as well. I want to break boundaries and start a new path for India,” he said.

The ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ hitmaker wants the audience to watch his movie and see “how they (the filmmakers) can improve it and can celebrate it”.

‘Le Musk’ is a 36-minute VR film which stars Nora Arnezeder and Guy Burnet in pivotal roles. Other Indian films including R. Madhavan’s ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ and Biswajeet Bora’s ‘Boomba Ride’ will also be screened at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

This time, the prestigious film festival is celebrating Indian cinema. India has been chosen as the first ‘Country of Honour’ at Marche du Cinema. (ANI)

We are land of stories, Cannes-like festival should happen in India: Shekhar Kapur

France [Cannes], May 18 (ANI): Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur feels India has strong potential to become the venue for a festival on the scale and level of Cannes Film Festival.

“For too long we’ve been too impressed with West. The next Cannes is in India because if it’s not, then I don’t know where Cannes will go. We’re the land of stories. The west is plateauing and the east is rising. We are the east, we’ve to step forward,” Kapur said during the inauguration of the Indian pavilion at the 75th edition of the prestigious event.

He added, “We have to step forward confidently that the world will accept us. Let’s go forward confidently. This is a moment of confidence. Cannes is extremely important but what is more important is how we use it afterwards. We have to focus on the aftermath of Cannes. We all have to take things seriously.”

Kapur is at Cannes as a part of Indian delegation led by Union Minister Anurag Thakur. On Tuesday, he along with R Madhavan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Grammy award-winner Ricky Kej, and Prasoon Joshi walked the red carpet. (ANI)

One day India won’t be at Cannes, Cannes would be at India: Deepika

Cannes [France], May 18 (ANI): Actor Deepika Padukone expressed immense pride in representing India at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film festival as one of the jury members. During the inauguration of the India pavilion at Cannes 2022 on Wednesday, Deepika spoke about how Indian cinema has come a long way.

“I feel we have a long way to go as a country, I feel really proud to be here as an Indian and to be representing the country. But when we look back at 75 Years of Cannes, I have said earlier also that there have been only a handful of Indian films, and Indian talent that have been able to make it and I feel like collectively as a nation today we have it,” she said. Deepika expressed confidence that a day will soon come when Cannes Film Festival will take place in India.

“We have the talent, we have the ability and I think we just sort of need that conviction and I truly believe there will come a day when India won’t be at Cannes, Cannes would be at India,” she stated.
Deepika also lauded music maestro AR Rahman and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur for putting Indian film industry on the global map with their work.

“India is on the cusp of greatness. It’s just the beginning… I want to thank Rahman sir and Shekhar sir for putting India on the global map and creating a path for all of us to be here today,” she added.
