New Delhi [India], October 29 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against five accused, including the then Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna and Dhanbad) department, in a case related to alleged bribery of Rs 10 lakh, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
The CBI has also named four private persons in their chargesheet filed on October 25.
As per an official release, the CBI had registered a case on August 26 on allegations that the accused was demanding and accepting illegal gratification from different assessees of income tax under his jurisdiction to cause undue benefit to them by abuse of his official position.
“It was also alleged that there were several conduits who were working on behalf of the then Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna & Dhanbad),” the CBI added.
On August 26, CBI laid a trap when the accused and a private person were intercepted and detained while transacting the bribe amount of Rs 10 lakh in the office of Income Tax at Ayakar Bhavan, Patna.
The role of three more accused also came to the fore, who too were arrested besides the accused PCIT and the aforesaid private person caught during trap proceedings, it added. (ANI)
