Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 9 (ANI): Kanpur encounter main accused Vikas Dubey has been arrested at a police station here on Thursday, as per sources in the Uttar Pradesh government.
“Vikas Dubey, the main accused in Kanpur encounter case, has been arrested at a police station in Ujjain,” said UP government sources.
Dubey is the main accused in the encounter that took place in Kanpur last week, in which a group of assailants allegedly opened fire on a police team, which had gone to arrest him.
Eight police personnel were killed in the encounter.
Earlier today, Bahua Dubey and Prabhat Mishra, close aides of the main accused, were killed in separate encounters in Etawah and Kanpur respectively.
Whereas, Shyamu Bajpai, also an aide to Dubey, has been arrested by Chaubeypur police following an encounter. He carried a reward of Rs 25,000. Uttar Pradesh‘s Special Task Force (STF) had gunned down Vikas Dubey‘s close aide Amar Dubey in Hamirpur district, earlier on Wednesday.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the arrest of Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the Kanpur encounter case, from Ujjain, informed Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today.
The Madhya Pradesh Police will hand over Dubey to Uttar Police Police, MP Chief Minister’s Office further informed.
The wanted gangster Dubey was nabbed from Ujjain in the morning today. His arrest comes six days after Dubey and his associates fired on Uttar Pradesh policemen killing eight and injuring six.
Earlier today, Bahua Dubey and Prabhat Mishra, close aides of the main accused, were killed in separate encounters in Etawah and Kanpur respectively.
Kanpur encounter case: Vikas Dubey’s aide Bahua shot dead by police in UP’s Etawah
Another aide of the Kanpur encounter accused Vikas Dubey, Bahua Dubey, died in an encounter with the police, here on Thursday.
“Today at around 4.30 AM, in an encounter with the Etawah Police, one person has died. from him, a rifle and a pistol too has been recovered. When we shared the information with the Kanpur Police, they identified him as Bahua Dubey,” said SSP Etawah Akash Tomar.
“He was involved in the Kanpur encounter alongside Vikas Dubey and there was a bounty of Rs 50,000 on him,” he added.
“Around 3 AM on the highway near Mahewa Police Station Bakewar, a Swift Dzire car was looted by four armed assailants on a Scorpio. Around 4:30 AM, they were intercepted at Kachaura road under Police Station Civil lines by the police. When police parties chased them, the car collided with a tree, and criminals started firing at the police,” he further said.
Dubey sustained injuries during the encounter and was pronounced dead when taken to the hospital. However, the other three managed to escape. One pistol, a double-barrel gun, and several cartridges have been recovered, he informed further.
Earlier today, Prabhat Mishra, also an aide of the main accused, died after being shot at by the police.
Mishra had sustained an injury on the leg after being shot at by the police and was rushed to a hospital before being pronounced dead.

A search operation is currently underway to nab Dubey.
Kanpur encounter case: Another aide of Vikas Dubey shot dead by police
Prabhat Mishra, a close aide to the Kanpur encounter accused Vikas Dubey, who was arrested along with two others on Wednesday in Faridabad, was killed in an encounter after being shot by the police while allegedly trying to flee from custody on Thursday.
“Prabhat Mishra, one of the three men who was arrested yesterday in Faridabad, is now dead after he was shot at by the police while he tried to escape custody,” Uttar Pradesh ADG, Law and Order Prashant Kumar told ANI.
“The police van broke down while Prabhat Mishra was being brought to Kanpur. He took advantage of the situation and snatched the pistol from the policeman. He then fired at our men and tried to escape. Our personnel retaliated, during which Prabhat was killed. Several policemen injured in the incident,” ADG Kanpur said while speaking to ANI.
He was sent to transit remand by the District Court in Faridabad, Haryana on Wednesday.

Three men were arrested from Faridabad after the police along with Crime Branch raided a house on receiving inputs on the presence of Kanpur encounter main accused and history-sheeter Vikas Dubey.
There was brief firing by criminals, pistol used by Dubey during Kanpur incident, and one pistol was stolen from Uttar Pradesh Police has been recovered, the Faridabad Police said on Wednesday.
