Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], October 2 (ANI): Democratic Progressive Azad Party chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is a member of the high-level committee formed to explore the feasibility of simultaneous polls in the country, on Monday said there is no “haste” and all political parties will be consulted on ‘One nation, One election’. “Preliminary meeting has taken place.
I don’t think there is any haste. Many were saying this will be implemented soon but I don’t think so because national parties, recognised parties and regional parties have to be called (to discuss). It is also incorrect to think that we will take the decision all by ourselves. It will not be done like that, everyone will be spoken to,” Azad said.
The High-Level Committee constituted recently to examine the issue of holding simultaneous elections in the country and make recommendations thereon held its preliminary meeting here on September 23 under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State (Independent Charge) from the Ministry of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, former Rajya Sabha leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission NK Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash Kashyap, former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari attended the meeting. Senior Advocate Harish Salve had joined the meeting virtually. (ANI)
