Geneva [Switzerland], May 27 (Sputnik/ANI): The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide has increased by nearly 100,000 over the past 24 hours to surpass 5.4 million, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.
According to the WHO, the global case tally currently stands at 5,404,512 — a rise by 99,780 over the past day. The death count worldwide amounts to 343,514 — an increase by 1,486. Most cases of infection are recorded in the Americas — 2,454,452, with 143,739 deaths.
France’s COVID-19 toll exceeds 28,500
The number of people who have died in France from coronavirus -related complications has reached 28,530, an increase of 315 since the latest previous reported figures last week, the French Public Health Agency (DGS) said.
The last time the DGS released a situation report on the death toll in France was last Thursday. The report stated 28,215 deaths linked to COVID-19 . “A total of 28,530 people have died. Out of them, 18,195 have died in hospitals and 10,335 others are in residential care establishments,” the agency said.
According to the update, 100,841 people in total have been hospitalised since the beginning of the pandemic, and 16,264 currently remain in hospitals, down from 18,468 last week, including 1,555 patients in intensive care units. Over the past 24 hours, 318 new people have been admitted to hospitals due to the coronavirus infection. The total recovery count is 65,879. (Sputnik/ANI)
Pakistan’s COVID-19 tally stands at 58,278 with 1,202 deaths
Islamabad [Pakistan], May 26 (ANI): Pakistan’s tally of COVID-19 infection on Tuesday reached 58,278 cases including 1,202 deaths, the country’s health ministry said.
As per the tally cited by Geo News, 23,507 cases have been detected in Sindh, 20,654 in Punjab, 8,080 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 3,468 in Balochistan, 1,728 in Islamabad, 630 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 211 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Sindh, which is the worst-hit province in the country reported 573 new cases in the last 24 hours. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that there were 14,618 patients under treatment in the province at the moment.
Opposition Leader and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif criticized the Imran Khan government saying a policy in place before the opening of the COVID-19 lockdown could have reduced the COVID-19 deaths in the country, Geo News reported. Shehbaz also urged the Pakistan government to not waste any time and develop a national strategy to combat the deadly contagion.
90 new cases of COVID-19 registered in Nepal in last 24 hours: Health Ministry
Kathmandu [Nepal], May 26 (ANI): Nepal in past 24 hours has recorded 90 new cases of COVID-19 taking the national tally to 772, the Ministry of Health and Population announced.
New cases of infection have been reported in 15 different districts of the Himalayan Nation, spokesperson at the Ministry, Dr. Bikash Devkota confirmed. Kapilvastu in last 24 hours registered 26 new cases of COVID-19 while Rautahat recorded 22, Surkhet- 12, Banke -8, Siraha-5, Bara-3, Mahottari, Jumla, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi and Syanja districts recorded 2 new cases each while the Dhanusha, Rupandehi, Kailali, Accham districts registered one case each.
As per the government records, 46 districts out of 77 districts has recorded infections from the virus. Amongst the 46 districts, Banke district till date has registered highest number of infection with 154 cases followed by Kapilvastu with 109, Parsa with 95, Rautahat-69 and Rupandehi with 44 cases. Four people from — Banke , Sindhupalchowk, Gulmi and Bara — have succumbed to the virus.(ANI)
