Islamabad [Pakistan], November 3 (ANI): Faisal Javed Khan, a Senator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who was injured in “the firing incident” near the container carrying Imran Khan during the long march, has said it was an “assassination attempt” on the former Pakistan Prime Minister, according to media reports.
Imran Khan has been injured in a firing incident near his container in Wazirabad in Pakistan’s Punjab province during his long march against the ruling coalition, reported ARY News. PTI said Imran Khan is safe and is being taken to the hospital.
Faisal Javed Khan, who was covered in blood because of the injuries sustained during the firing incident, said he was injured in the “assassination attempt” on Imran Khan. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sought a report from Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. He also directed the Interior Minister to get a report from the Punjab Chief Secretary and IGP Punjab.
PTI secretary general Asad Umar said Imran Khan is being shifted to Lahore after the firing incident.
“Imran Khan is being shifted to Lahore for medical treatment,” he said Asad Umar. PTI leaders including Senator Faisal Javed, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Ahmed Chatta and Umar Dar were also injured in the incident, he added, according to ARY News.
As the incident took place in Punjab, the Chief Minister of the province Parvez Elahi instructed the provincial IGP to submit a report after a thorough investigation. “Those behind this incident will be brought to justice soon and the injured will be provided the best medical care,” the Chief Minister said.
The incident took place when the Haqeeqi March entered Wazirabad. Following the firing, there was a stampede. Everyone including the PTI leaders on the container panicked, the reports said. At the time of the firing, the convoy had reached near Zafarali Khan Chowk, ARY News said.
The media reports quoting sources said that there are reports of 5 people injured in the firing incident. Those injured have been shifted to the hospital in ambulances, it added. ARY News, quoting sources, said the alleged shooter has been detained.

And thank you from his sons to the heroic man in the crowd who tackled the gunman,” she tweeted.

A day after he was shot at in Pakistan’s Punjab province, the country’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Friday, broke silence on the attack and said he was “hit by four bullets.” In the first address to the nation, since his assassination attempt on Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief dismissed reports that he was hit by friendly fire, saying he was “hit by four bullets.”
“A day before going to the rally, I knew that assassination was being planned against me either in Wazirabad or Gujrat,” Khan said, as he explained the sequence of events during a televised address while still being admitted at a hospital in Lahore.
He repeated the foreign conspiracy claims against the US over his government’s independent foreign policy. The 70-year-old cricketer-turned-politician was ousted from power in April this year, by a vote of confidence.
Khan said his government would have never lost the no-trust move. “…But they (the coalition leaders) used the money to become successful,” he said. He dismissed both the foreign funding cases and Toshakhana cases, lodged against him, are mere tactics to subdue him.
Imran Khan assassination bid: Punjab CM orders probe
Pakistan’s Punjab province Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday night instructed the police to form a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the attack on former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan’s convoy in Wazirabad. Officials of the counter-terrorism department will be placed on the team to investigate the motives of the incident, The Dawn quoted citing an official statement.
“We want to know who is behind the incident, who trained the accused, how much money was he given and where did he get it from,” the chief minister said, adding it appeared there were two shooters, not one,” it added. PTI chief was injured after a man opened fire at him in Gujranwala near the party’s reception camp. The former prime minister sustained injuries on his leg and has been shifted to a hospital for treatment, Geo News reported.

The suspect caught by police in Pakistan for opening fire during the PTI’s long march, has said he wanted to kill PTI chairman and ex-PM Imran Khan because “he was misleading the public,” media reports said.

My conscience did not approve of this. I decided this suddenly… I conspired against Imran Khan from the day he kicked off his long march from Lahore. I made up my mind that I will not leave him alive,” as per a video of the shooter shared on social media.
Responding to whether there was someone else in the conspiracy, the shooter said, “I have conspired this alone and no one else is involved in this. I came on a bike and I parked it at my uncle’s shop. He has a motorcycle showroom.”
Giving an update on Imran Khan’s health, Omar Ayub Khan, Additional General Secretary PTI tweeted Imran Khan is being operated upon in Shaukat Khanum Emergency in Lahore. “Doctors will brief after the operation Inshallah. Prayers needed for the complete & speedy recovery of Khan Sb & all our injured colleagues.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has urged Punjab police to immediately cordon off the crime scene and seal Imran Khan’s container for investigation purposes. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has also condemned the firing incident on PTI chief Imran Khan and the party members.

We’re closely keeping an eye on it and we’ll continue to monitor ongoing developments,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on the firing at former Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s rally in Wazirabad.

Shehbaz Sharif urges Chief Justice of Pakistan to investigate Imran Khan’s allegations
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday slammed Imran Khan for undermining national institutions and requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a full court commission to investigate his allegations. “Imran Niazi habitually uses baseless allegations and lies to spread anarchy. Government has decided to request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a full court commission to investigate his allegations. Let the people see through his game plan to undermine national institutions,” Shehbaz Sharif tweeted.
Shehbaz Sharif wrote a letter to the Supreme Court to constitute a full-court bench to investigate the allegations made by the PTI Chief Imran Khan and also the investigation of the Arshad Sharif murder case, ARY News reported.
He made these remarks while addressing a press conference in Lahore. This comes two days after Imran Khan was shot during his long march. Shehbaz wished Imran and others injured a speedy recovery however did not fall short of attacking him for Imran Khan‘s “false and cheap conspiracies.”
PM Shehbaz also urged the PTI chief to present evidence to support his allegations. “The attack is condemnable, however, when the nation is being pushed towards devastation by false narratives it is my responsibility that I play a positive role to protect the people,” Shehbaz said.
During the presser, Shehbaz Sharif played a video which showed Imran Khan making statements about the armed forces since 2011. In a strong statement, Shehbaz Sharif said that if Imran Khan succeeds in proving that he was behind the attack during his Haqeeqi march, then he would resign from his Prime Ministerial post immediately.
“Imran Khan‘s tales are full of contradictions. I cannot, for even a moment, waste my time thinking that this man — who was granted a new life by Allah — is lying day and night. Today, he is attacking the Pakistan army in a way an enemy would do,” the PM said.
Condemning the PTI government, Shehbaz Sharif said, “He damaged institutions, the economy, and foreign relations. I have certain secrets regarding the country’s foreign relations buried in my heart which, if I share, would leave you shocked. But I will not talk about it because I am faithful. I will not sacrifice Pakistan’s interest for personal gains,” reported ARY News. (ANI)
