Paris [France], April 25 (ANI): Emmanuel Macron on Sunday (local time) won a second term in France’s presidential election with 58.2 per cent of the vote, local media reported. Macron’s far-right challenger Marine Le Pen won 41.8 per cent of the vote in an election that saw the country’s highest abstention rate in 50 years, France 24 reported citing an estimate from the Ipsos polling institute.
Macron on Sunday (local time) won the French Presidential election defeating far-right leader Marine Le Pen. After winning the election, Macron spoke near the Eiffel Tower in Paris and thanked his supporters who voted for him. Macron said that he will be president for all French citizens, including supporters of his rival Marine Le Pen, the leader of the right-wing National Rally party.
“From the very beginning, I ask you not to boo anyone, because from now I am not a candidate from one party, but a president for all [citizens],” Macron said, according to Sputnik.
The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted his congratulations to Macron in English and French. “Congratulations to @EmmanuelMacron on your re-election as President of France. France is one of our closest and most important allies. I look forward to continuing to work together on the issues which matter most to our two countries and to the world,” Johnson tweeted.
“The victory of Emmanuel Macron in the French presidential election is great news for all of Europe,” Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has said in a statement, according to France 24. Macron was born in December 1977 in Amiens. He studied philosophy, and later attended the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) where he graduated in 2004.
He then joined the Inspectorate General of Finance where he worked for four years before entering the banking sector. In 2012, he became Deputy General Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic. He left office in July 2014 and served as the Minister for Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs from August 2014 to August 2016.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election and expressed readiness for cooperation on deepening bilateral ties between the two countries.

Washington [US], April 25 (ANI): US President Joe Biden on Monday congratulated French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on his re-election and expressed readiness for further cooperation on areas including the Ukraine issue and climate change. “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election. France is our oldest ally and a key partner in addressing global challenges. I look forward to our continued close cooperation — including on supporting Ukraine, defending democracy, and countering climate change,” Biden tweeted.
World leaders congratulate Macron as he secures second term as President
Western leaders congratulated Emmanuel Macron for winning the French presidential election with 58.8 per cent of the votes on Sunday (local time).
In a congratulatory message, European Council President Charles Michel said, “We can count on France for five more years.”
Taking to Twitter, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz shared a photo with Macron and said, “I am happy that we will continue our good cooperation.”
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called France “one of our closest and most important allies”. “Congratulations to @EmmanuelMacron on your re-election as President of France. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was “looking forward to continuing our work together on the issues that matter most to people in Canada and France — from defending democracy, to fighting climate change, to creating good jobs and economic growth for the middle class”.
Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that the citizens have chosen a France committed to a “free, strong and fair EU”.
World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he looked forward to continuing the “important partnership” between France and WHO for a “healthier, safer and fairer world”.
