Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) [India], March 19 (ANI): A 23-year-old youth who had gone to take a bath in the Bhagirathi river went missing on Friday from the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
According to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Ajay Gusain (23) resident of Athali village in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi went to the river to take a bath with his friends after Holi celebrations.
After receiving the information of the missing youth, the 12th Battalion of the ITBP rescue team rushed to conduct a search operation.
The ITBP team along with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) tried to locate the missing youth at the site deep down the river but no trace was found till late evening. The river depth at the rescue site where the youth went missing/drowned is approximately 25-30 feet, as per the ITBP.
The search operation will continue till Saturday morning. (ANI)
Two killed as groups clash over applying Holi colours in UP’s Amethi
Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 18 (ANI): Two people were killed and several others were injured after a clash erupted between two groups over applying Holi colours in Amethi’s Babupur village in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
“Two people died and 5 to 6 people got injured after a clash erupted between two groups over applying Holi colours in Babupur village of Amethi,” Amethi District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Mishra said. (ANI)
One killed, four injured after speeding car rams into auto-rickshaw on Delhi’s Baba Banda Singh Bahadur flyover
New Delhi [India], March 19 (ANI): A 13-year-old boy was killed and four others were injured in a road accident after a speeding car rammed into an auto-rickshaw on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur flyover in the national capital on Friday.
“A car which was driven rashly hit a moving auto-rickshaw on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur flyover in which one driver and four passengers were riding. After hitting the auto-rickshaw, the offending vehicle also hit another car on the flyover,” said Esha Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Delhi.
A family of four people including Janak Janadhan Bhatt, his wife Geeta Bhatt and two sons aged 18-year-old and 13-year-old were travelling in the auto-rickshaw. “The auto driver Wakar Alam and the family of four members riding in the auto-rickshaw were shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where the 13-year-old boy was declared dead and treatments of the rest have started. The condition of the woman is critical and she is on a ventilator as of now,” said Pandey.
The police said that the offending driver has absconded from the spot. Meanwhile, the offending vehicle has been taken into custody by the police. (ANI)
One BSF jawan killed, another goes missing as vehicle falls in water body in Assam
Mankachar (Assam) [India], March 18 (ANI): One jawan died and another has reportedly gone missing after a vehicle of the Border Security Force in which they were travelling met with an accident and fell into a deep water body in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district along Indo-Bangladesh border on Friday.
The incident took place at the Jhaudanga area under the Mankachar police station along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
BSF official said that the body of a jawan was recovered from the water body and the driver of the vehicle is still missing.
Senior BSF officer CK Upadhyay said that five jawans including the driver had gone to the bordering area for patrolling.
“It is suspected that the driver of the vehicle had lost his control over the vehicle and it fell into the 20-30 feet deep water body. A Sub-Inspector, three jawans and the driver were travelling in the vehicle. Three among them had reached a safer place by swimming. The body of one of the two persons who were missing was found and another is still missing. The search operation is on,” Upadhyay said.
Meanwhile, top officials of BSF, district police and administration have rushed to the spot. (ANI)
