New Delhi [India], May 11 (ANI): Union Minister of Science and Technology , Earth Sciences, and Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday said that India’s fight against COVID-19 is moving ahead fast strongly and steadily.
Dr Vardhan was addressing a digital conference — RE-START – Reboot the Economy through Science, Technology and Research Translations — organised to celebrate the National Technology Day here.
It was organised by the Technology Development Board (TDB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), read a statement.
While applauding the Ministry of Science and Technology’s response to epidemics like COVID-19 in the country, Dr Vardhan said: “Indian government, academia, scientists, startups, entrepreneurs and industry have been working relentlessly to find solutions to combat this pandemic.”
“We must appreciate the efforts of our scientists, our entrepreneurs and our institutions working to find quick and deployable solutions for COVID-19 . New discoveries, industry partnerships, and enhanced researches have thus, been rapidly developed and adopted,” added Dr Vardhan.
“Within a short period of time, the nation has been able to mobilise a number of researchers to develop new testing kits, protective equipment, respiratory devices, etc.,” he added. The minister also apprised about the ‘COVID-19 Task Force’ set up by the government to map the COVID-19 related technology capabilities.
“Our Government has vigorously supported the ‘Make in India’ programme. This has brought in scientific institutions and startups to develop the COVID-19 tests, masks, sanitisers, personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and ventilators,” he said.
Talking about the theme for the National Technology Day this year, Dr Vardhan said: “We need to mitigate the widespread economic impact and prepare for a stronger recovery using self-reliance as the new mantra. Thus, we look towards new opportunities to galvanise the growth in the technological and industrial sector.”
124 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths in West Bengal
(West Bengal) [India], May 11 (ANI): Five deaths and 124 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in West Bengal on Monday, as per information provided by the state Health Department.
Maharashtra reports 1,230 new COVID cases, total count 23,401
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 11 (ANI): With 1,230 new COVID-19 cases reported in Maharashtra on Monday, the count of people infected from the virus has climbed to 23,401, the state health department said. Thirty six deaths were reported on Monday. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the state has risen to 868. Meanwhile, Dharavi has confirmed 57 new COVID-19 cases taking the total number to 916 and 29 deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. Greater Mumbai now has 14,355 corona positive cases as 791 people were detected positive for the virus on Monday. Twenty people lost their lives while battling with the disease today, Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai said. Among 14,355 cases, 3,110 people have been cured and discharged and 528 have succumbed to the infection.
174 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths reported in Rajasthan today
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 11 (ANI): Five deaths and 174 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Rajasthan on Monday, as per information provided by the state Health Department. According to the Health Department, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state stands at 3,988, including 1,551 active cases. 113 deaths have been reported so far. The total number of positive coronavirus cases across the country is currently at 67,152, including 44,029 active cases of the virus. So far, 20,916 patients have either been cured or discharged while 2,206 deaths have been recorded in the country, as per data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare .
Tamil Nadu COVID-19 count hits 8,002
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 11 (ANI): A total of 798 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 8,002 in the state. According to the official data, out of the total number of cases, 5,895 are active cases, 2,051 people have been discharged and 53 have died due to the infection. “798 more COVID-19 cases and 6 deaths reported in Tamil Nadu today. Total number of cases in the state is now at 8,002, including 5,895 active cases, 2,051 discharged and 53 deaths,” the Health Department said.
109 new cases, UP COVID-19 count rises to 3,573
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 11 (ANI): A total of 109 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 3,573 in the state, the health department said. The number of cases includes 1,758 discharged, 1735 active cases and 80 deaths. “109 more COVID-19 cases reported in Uttar Pradesh today. The total number of cases in the state is now at 3,573, including 1,758 discharged, 1,735 active cases, and 80 deaths,” the Health Department stated.
79 new COVID-19 cases reported in Telangana
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 11 (ANI): Seventy-nine new cases of COVID-19 were reported, and 50 patients have been cured and discharged in Telangana, said the state’s Health Department on Monday. According to the Health Department, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State is 1,275, including 444 active cases. Till now, 801 patients have either been cured or discharged, while 30 deaths have been reported in the State.
18 new COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 11 (ANI): 18 new COVID-19 cases have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir today, as per information provided by the J-K government. While 12 COVID-19 cases were reported from Kashmir division, six were from the Jammu division. The total number of coronavirus cases in the Union Territory now stands at 879, including 442 active cases. While 427 patients have recovered, 10 deaths have been reported in the state so far.
14 new COVID-19 cases in Odisha today
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 11 (ANI): Fourteen COVID-19 cases were reported Odisha on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 391 in the State. According to an official statement, “as on May 10 midnight, 63,478 samples have been tested and 391 cases have been tested positive till May 11, 2 pm.” “One COVID-19 case was reported in Rourkela, Kendrapara each and 12 in Ganjam, taking the total number of cases to 391 in Odisha ,” added the statement. According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, 85 people have been discharged and three people have died of the virus so far.

COVID-19 cases in Indore cross 2000, toll at 92
Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 12 (ANI): The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Indore has crossed 2000, with 81 new coronavirus positive cases, according to the state’s health bulletin released on Monday evening. In a bulletin issued on May 11, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Praveen Jadia reported 81 new corona patients. The death toll linked to coronavirus here has reached 92 with two new deaths reported on Monday. As of May 10, the total number of novel coronavirus positive patients in Indore district was 1935. With 81 new cases, the COVID-19 tally of Indore now stands at 2016.
Two BSF officials in Tripura test COVID-19 positive
Dhalai (Tripura ) [India], May 12 (ANI): Two more BSF personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 , chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said. “In a massive COVID-19 test among 750 civilians and BSF in Dhalai Dist today, 2 BSF officials were found COVID-19 POSITIVE. All patients are responding well to the treatment. With the blessings of Mata Tripura sundari soon our State will be Corona free,” Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted.
7 new COVID-19 cases reported in Kerala, total active cases at 27
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], May 11 (ANI): A total of seven persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala on Monday, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 27, said Health Minister KK Shailaja.
Among the positive cases reported, four people have returned from Maharashtra while two have arrived from Kuwait and Chennai respectively. Of the seven cases reported today, four people are from Kasargod district and one each from Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. “A total of 489 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far,” said the minister.
Till Sunday, 1,307 people had returned from overseas. Of these, 650 are under observation at home, 641 are at COVID care centres and 16 in hospitals. Of these, 229 are pregnant.
A total of 27,986 people are under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 27,545 are under home quarantine and 441 in hospitals. Today 157 people were admitted to the hospital. So far, a sample of 37,858 individuals (including the augmented sample) has been sent for inspection. Nenmeni in Wayanad district has been added as a hotspot taking the total hot spots to 34. (ANI)
