New Delhi [India], November 3 (ANI): After the Centre’s announcement on reduction on excise duty on petrol and diesel, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced slashing the Value Added Tax (VAT) by Rs 7 on both petrol and diesel in the state.
Taking to Twitter, Sawant expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving relief to the common man.
“The Modi Govt. has given a great Diwali gift to all Indians, by announcing a reduction in Excise Duty on Petrol and Diesel. I thank the Hon’ble PM @narendramodi Ji as this decision shall give great relief to the common man and help control inflation,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
“In addition, Government of Goa shall reduce an additional Rs 7 on petrol and Rs 7 on Diesel, thereby reducing the price of diesel by Rs 17 per litre and petrol by Rs 12 per litre,” he said in another tweet.
In a significant decision, the Centre on Wednesday reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel to bring down the prices of the two petroleum products which had been seeing an upward trend.
The relief to consumers came on the eve of Diwali. The Finance Ministry said that excise duty on petrol will come down by Rs 5 and that on diesel by Rs 10 and it will be effective from Thursday. It urged the states “to commensurately reduce” VAT on petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday announced that the state government has decided to reduce petrol and diesel cost by Rs 7 from tomorrow. This comes after the Central government’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel.
“Following Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji led central govt’s decision on reduction of excise duty on petrol & diesel. #Tripura govt has also decided to reduce petrol & diesel cost by Rs 7 from tomorrow,” Deb tweeted.
“After central and state governments deduction in fuel prices, petrol and diesel will be cheaper by Rs12 and Rs17 respectively in #Tripura from tomorrow. A happier#Diwali for the 37 lakh people of #Tripura,” he said in another tweet.
Assam government followed the Central government’s suit in giving relief to people regarding fuel prices with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing a reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 7. “Heartening to learn Central Govt decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. In consonance with the decision of Honble PM @narendramodi, I am pleased to announce that Assam Govt will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7/- with immediate effect,” Sarma tweeted.
After Goa, Tripura and Assam made similar announcements, the Karnataka government on Wednesday announced that it will reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 7 from tomorrow. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai took to Twitter to announce the decision today.
