New Delhi [India], August 3 (ANI): Congress‘ student wing National Students’ Union of India on Monday staged a protest against the Central government on Pegasus row.
The students’ organisation staged a protest outside the Shastri Bhavan.
NSUI’s State president of Delhi, Kunal Sherawat and Delhi in-charge, Nitish Gaur staged the protest under the leadership of the National President Neeraj Kundan.
Kundan in his press statement said, “This is the most embarrassing act by any government in the independent history of our country. This is not just another scam, but also a pre-planned attack on all four pillars of our democracy.”
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has targeted the legislature, the executive and even the media and judiciary.
“This is crossing all the boundaries of shamelessness as the Modi government has moved from ‘controlling the institutions’ to ‘spying on them’. Our leader Rahul Gandhi has rightly pointed out that there could be no other word for this other than ‘Treason’,” he added.
Hundreds of youngsters participated in the protest and wore symbolic masks with a warning written which said, “Shhhhh… Pegasus is listening to you”. (ANI)
Cong MP Manickam Tagore gives adjournment notice in LS to discuss Pegasus issue
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has given an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss the ‘Pegasus Project’ media report.
“I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely:- Need to suspend the business of the day to have a discussion in the presence of the Prime Minister or Home Minister the alleged role of the Government towards utilizing Israeli Pegasus spyware as the weapon against Indian opposition leaders, Chief Justice of India, Election Commissioner of India, CBI Director, Women Journalists and MPs of BJP’s,” wrote Tagore in the notice.
Yesterday as well, Tagore had given adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss on ‘Pegasus Project’ media report.
The Opposition has alleged that names of several Indian politicians, journalists, lawyers, and activists have appeared on the leaked list of potential targets for surveillance by an unidentified agency using Pegasus spyware. This comes following reports published in The Wire.
Amidst the uproar created by Opposition parties in the Parliament on Friday, the Lower House of the Parliament was adjourned till 11 am on August 3.
While the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla asked the Parliamentarians to maintain decorum in the House, the opposition parties continued to create ruckus on various issues ranging from Pegasus row to farmer protests.
The business of both the Houses of the Parliament remained majorly disrupted due to the continuous ruckus created by the Opposition over the issues including farmers’ protest, Pegasus spyware, COVID-19 and inflation.
CPI MP Binoy Viswam gives suspension of business notice in RS on Pegasus issue
Communist Party of India (CPI) MP Binoy Viswam has given a suspension of business notice in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday under rule 267 to discuss the ‘Pegasus Project’ media report.
The Opposition has alleged that names of several Indian politicians, journalists, lawyers, and activists have appeared on the leaked list of potential targets for surveillance by an unidentified agency using Pegasus spyware. This comes following reports published in The Wire.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will host opposition leaders for a breakfast meeting today to discuss the strategy to take on the BJP-led government in the remaining part of the monsoon session of parliament on issues being raised by the opposition, including alleged surveillance through Pegasus spyware.
Sources said that leaders of around 14 Opposition parties have been invited to the meeting at the Constitution Club.
Opposition parties have been forcing adjournments in the two Houses of Parliament on their demands which include a probe into the surveillance allegations.
Sources said there is a proposal from Left parties to organise ‘mock parliament’ as a way of registering protest against the government. However, not all opposition parties agree on this proposal and it could be discussed at the meeting.
The parliament session began on July 19 and is slated to conclude on August 13. (ANI)
