New Delhi [India], Mar 28 (ANI): Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the creation of the PM-Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (CARES) Fund and urged people to make donations to support the government in fight against coronavirus . “Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India.
People from all walks of life can donate to this fund,” Modi wrote on Twitter. “It is my appeal to my fellow Indians, kindly contribute to the PM-CARES Fund.
This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations if they occur in the times ahead,” he added. Prime Minister also said that PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations that will help enhance India’s disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.
“The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities & encourage research on protecting citizens. Let us leave no stone unturned to make India healthier and more prosperous for our future generations,” he added. He further said: “People from all walks of life expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID-19.
Respecting that spirit, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India.” This came after Modi had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country effective from midnight to deal with spread of the coronavirus , saying that ” social distancing” is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 918 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 19 fatalities have been reported. (ANI)
BCCI to give Rs 51 crores to PM-CARES Fund
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI ) president Sourav Ganguly , Secretary Jay Shah and office-bearers along with the affiliated state associations on Saturday announced to donate Rs 51 crores to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) to “strengthening the nation’s disaster management capacities and encourage research to combat COVID-19 “.
“The outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-1) is first and foremost a public health emergency and the BCCI has a firm resolve that the nation gets all possible help to cope with the testing times,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The Board along with its state associations will continue to monitor and work closely with the Government of India, state governments and other state regulatory bodies and are committed to providing support to the state machinery in the face of adversity.
Earlier, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina pledged to donate Rs 31 lakhs to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 21 to UP CM’s Disaster Relief Fund to aid the battle against COVID-19.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi created Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund and appealed all the countrymen to show there support for the cause.
On Friday, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has donated Rs 25 lakh each to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra’s Relief Fund to aid the battle against COVID-19 .
Various athletes have come forward to help the country in its fight against the coronavirus. Among them is Indian sprinter Hima Das, who on Thursday said that she will donate a month’s salary to the Assam government’s coronavirus relief fund.
Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly , and wrestler Bajrang Punia have also contributed their bit for the cause.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 873 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 19 fatalities have been reported. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. (ANI)
PM salutes AAI employees for raising Rs 20 cr for COVID-19 relief fund
Employees of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) have raised Rs 20 crore as an initial contribution for the PM CARES Fund to fight the menace of coronavirus (COVID-19). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday saluted the AAI employees for their professionalism.
“AAI employees raised Rs 20 crore as an initial contribution to the #PMCARES Funds to fight the menace of COVID1-9. Collectively, as responsible citizens of this country, we shall make all efforts to protect, empower and help effected communities to tide over this emergency,” the AAI tweeted. The airport authority also donated Rs 15 crore from its CSR funds to the PM Cares Fund to deal with the challenges arising out of the unprecedented coronavirus crisis.
“The COVID-19 India crisis is one of the toughest challenges we are facing. The AAI has decided to donate Rs 15 crore from its CSR Fund to the PM-CARES Fund to meet this challenge before the nation. At this moment, contributing to such a collective fund is the need of the hour #AAICares,” it said in another tweet. Responding to this, Prime Minister took to the Twitter to express his gratitude.
“Our airport staff has been out there, working round the clock in tough circumstances. I salute their professionalism and their noteworthy gesture of contributing to PM-CARES. #IndiaFightsCorona,” he wrote. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, at 10 am on March 29 the total COVID-19 positive cases in the country rose to 979. (ANI)
Defence employees contribute one day salary to PM-CARES
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday approved a proposal for the contribution of one day salary by the employees of Ministry of Defence to the PM-CARES fund to fight COVID-19 .
It is estimated that around Rs 500 crore will be collectively provided by the Defence Ministry to the fund from various wings, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Defence PSUs and others. The employees’ contributionis voluntary and those desirous of opting out will be exempted.
A total of 979 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India which includes 48 foreign nationals. 25 deaths have been caused due to COVID-19 in the country, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday. (ANI)

COVID-19: Adani Foundation contributes Rs. 100 Cr to PM-CARES fund
Gautam Adani , the chairman and founder of the Adani Group , on Sunday announced that his Adani Foundation has contributed a sum of Rs 100 crore to the PM CARES fund for the battle against COVID-19 . Adani took to Twitter to make the announcement of the contribution.
“ADANI FOUNDATION is humbled to contribute Rs. 100 Cr to the #PMcaresfund in this hour of India’s battle against #COVID19,” the 57-year-old industrialist tweeted. Gautam Adani also said that the group will further contribute to the government with additional resources needed to combat the outbreak of the virus.
“ADANI GROUP will further contribute additional resources to support the GOVERNMENTS and FELLOW CITIZENS in these testing times,” he tweeted. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in India rose to 1023 on Sunday including 95 recoveries and 27 deaths. (ANI)
