NEW DELHI, India, October 13 (ANI) — Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand arrived in India on Tuesday, highlighting sustained high-level engagement and positive momentum in bilateral relations.
“A warm welcome to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Anita Anand, on her visit to India. This is the third visit to India by Minister Anand since June 2025, reflecting the sustained high-level engagement and positive momentum in India-Canada relations,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a post on X.
“The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to build on the recent progress and further advance our bilateral partnership,” the ministry added.
According to a news release issued by the Canadian government on Monday, Anand will meet India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to advance cooperation on priorities outlined in the bilateral roadmap.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also spoke by telephone on Tuesday evening, agreeing to build on the positive momentum in bilateral relations and pursue tangible results across key sectors.
“Had a warm and productive conversation with Prime Minister Mark Carney. We agreed to build on the positive momentum in India-Canada ties and work towards concrete outcomes across key areas of our Strategic Partnership, including trade, energy, technology, security and people-to-people ties,” Modi wrote on X after the call.
“Together, India and Canada are contributing towards a more stable and prosperous world,” he added.
The diplomatic engagement follows a meeting between India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, to discuss advancing negotiations on the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Goyal said the discussions focused on advancing negotiations toward a balanced, mutually beneficial agreement that would improve market access and create new trade and investment opportunities.
He expressed confidence that the CEPA would provide fresh momentum to bilateral trade and strengthen the economic partnership for shared prosperity.
Sidhu is leading Canada’s largest corporate delegation to visit India in three decades. The delegation includes approximately 300 participants who are expected to explore joint ventures across key sectors as both countries continue negotiations on the trade agreement.
In a post on X, Sidhu said the delegation would focus on sectors including aerospace, clean energy, technology, life sciences, agri-food and forestry as Canada seeks to expand trade relations with one of the world’s fastest-growing major markets.
“We’re also advancing negotiations on a Canada-India CEPA trade agreement, with the goal of opening more opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses,” he said.
Sidhu added that the negotiations aim to secure broader market access and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
India and Canada are working toward an agreement intended to create additional opportunities for businesses and workers in both countries. (ANI)
