NEW DELHI, India, October 13 (ANI) — India has opened a new resident diplomatic mission in San José, the capital of Costa Rica, as part of efforts to expand its diplomatic presence across Central America.
Bilateral ties between New Delhi and San José have been growing, with both governments seeking to strengthen cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, pharmaceuticals and information technology.
The Indian mission began operations on October 10, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
“The operationalization of the resident Indian Mission in Costa Rica will help expand India’s diplomatic footprint in Central America and further strengthen bilateral relations between India and Costa Rica,” the MEA said.
The ministry said the new mission would encourage closer diplomatic engagement, promote bilateral trade and investment, and deepen cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
“It will facilitate closer political engagement, promote bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation, and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” the MEA said.
The mission is also expected to foster cultural ties and stronger people-to-people connections while maintaining regular dialogue with Costa Rica on regional and multilateral priorities.
The ministry added that the new diplomatic post would improve consular services for Indian nationals living in the country.
“It will provide enhanced consular assistance to Indian nationals and the Indian community in Costa Rica and help protect their interests,” the MEA said. (ANI)
