Riyadh [Saudi Arabia], September 8 (ANI): Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said multiple energy facilities and installations in the kingdom’s southern province came under attack Tuesday morning, resulting in injuries.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry said the attacks triggered fires at several locations and led to a temporary suspension of some operations. Emergency response teams were deployed to ensure personnel safety, protect infrastructure and restore normal operations.
The ministry said comprehensive assessments of the structural damage are underway and that all individuals injured in the attacks are receiving medical treatment.
The strikes were part of an assault by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement that injured at least 73 people, prompting the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen to announce Tuesday that it would respond firmly to the latest escalation in hostilities.
The Houthis, who control Yemen’s most populous areas and much of the country’s north, have been launching attacks toward Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, with strikes targeting vessels in the Red Sea.
Describing the escalation as dangerous, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said Tuesday that the Houthi movement deliberately targeted civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter and de facto leader of OPEC.
Col. Turki al-Malki said in a statement posted on X, “The coalition will take all necessary operational measures to deter this terrorist militia and resolutely confront its hostile approach.”
The official statement said the coordinated Houthi attacks targeted locations in the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran.
Meanwhile, a Financial Times report published Monday said Aramco’s Jazan oil facilities were hit in new strikes, with assessments of the damage still underway. (ANI)
