New Delhi, Aug. 5 (ANI): Delhi Police have arrested a 27-year-old man accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and forcing her into marriage using forged identity documents.
The accused, identified as Vikas, was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district in connection with FIR No. 973/2023 registered at Okhla Industrial Area Police Station under Sections 363, 366, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
According to Delhi Police, Vikas allegedly kidnapped the 16-year-old girl and arranged forged documents, including a fake birth certificate and a forged Aadhaar card, to falsely portray her as an adult so the marriage could take place.
Police said repeated notices issued to the accused went unanswered as he remained absconding and frequently changed locations to evade arrest.
The operation was led by Woman Sub-Inspector Sunil, who, along with a police team, used technical surveillance, mobile phone analysis, local inquiries, and intelligence gathering over several days to track the suspect.
Acting on specific intelligence, the team conducted a raid in Jawan Sikandpur, Aligarh, on Aug. 3 and arrested the accused despite his attempt to flee.
Investigators are now working to identify the rented accommodation where the minor was allegedly confined, the Arya Samaj temple where the marriage was solemnized, and the individuals involved in preparing the forged documents. Police said incriminating evidence and forged documents are being recovered as part of the investigation.
The accused was produced before a local court, which granted one day of police custody for further questioning. Delhi Police said the investigation is ongoing and that further legal action will be taken against all alleged co-conspirators in the case. (ANI)
