NEW DELHI, Aug. 3 (ANI): Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov has arrived in New Delhi for a four-day official visit to India from Aug. 2 to Aug. 5, 2026.
Welcoming Saidov, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote in a post on X, “A very warm welcome to Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov @FM_Saidov of Uzbekistan on his arrival in New Delhi for an official visit.”
The visit includes high-level diplomatic meetings and economic discussions aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Saidov’s schedule begins Monday with a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Later in the day, he will participate in a special business forum in New Delhi before holding bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House.
The foreign minister’s itinerary also includes official engagements across New Delhi on Tuesday, Aug. 4, before his departure on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
The visit builds on a series of recent high-level exchanges between New Delhi and Tashkent aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy and security.
According to the MEA, India and Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations through a protocol signed in Tashkent on March 18, 1992. The two countries elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2011.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev last met in September 2025 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.
India is among Uzbekistan’s top 10 trading partners, with bilateral trade totaling $756.6 million in 2023, according to Uzbek government statistics. The MEA said the figure remains well below its full potential.
India’s major exports to Uzbekistan include pharmaceutical products, machinery, vehicle parts, services, frozen buffalo meat, optical instruments and equipment, and mobile phones. India’s imports from Uzbekistan consist primarily of fruits and vegetables, services, fertilizers, fruit juices and extracts, and lubricants, according to the MEA.
India and Uzbekistan signed a bilateral market access protocol on May 27, 2026, as part of Uzbekistan’s accession process to the World Trade Organization. (ANI)
